The Erhu And The Butterflies

Wikipedia https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ravanastron.jpg This story coalesced in my mind very quickly. It was inspired by events when I was in China. It was my first visit to China and also my first long haul flight so being so far from home and being in such a different world had a quite profound effect on me. If you are interested you can read about my experiences at lostinchina.me.uk This story is a mixture of real events and fictional ones. It’s not easily adapted for very young children but it can be done by just telling part.

As Wikipedia tells us, “the Erhu (ChinButterflyese: 二胡; pinyin: èrhú) is a two-stringed bowed musical instrument“. It makes a very wistful and beautiful sound and I heard them being played in a variety of places.

As to the butterflies, well those are a different matter, even I didn’t expect them to turn up; but that’s enough or I’ll give the game away!
